To mark Volunteer’s Week, Local Conservatives have shared their experiences and spoken of their admiration and appreciation for the ‘extraordinary commitment’ of volunteers across Milton Keynes who selflessly dedicate their time and efforts to community groups, charities and voluntary organisations across the City.
Group Leader Cllr Shazna Muzammil said:
‘During my time as a volunteer with St John's Ambulance and as a councillor I've had the privilege of witnessing the extraordinary commitment and hard work many people put in to volunteering. These dedicated individuals generously give their time to support others, truly embodying the spirit of community.
Volunteers Week is a perfect moment to recognise and celebrate these unsung heroes who are the foundation of all our community efforts. Many of our councillors, and members like Ketan Kadakia and Charlotte Hall, are deeply involved in volunteering because we all see the immense value it brings to our community. I encourage everyone to find a way to contribute and thank you for making a difference in many people’s lives by giving up your time with your loved ones to make our city a better place.’
Cllr David Hopkins, ward member for Danesborough and Olney, has been a volunteer school governor for over 30 years and spoke of his experience:
“During my time as a School Governor, I hope that I may have made a positive impact on the education of literally thousands of children and have worked towards the creation of ever improving schools in two very contrasting parts of MK and, as such, have contributed to the making of a better and more cohesive community. Schools act as a vital hub within our communities and being a governor has enabled me to meet new people who I would not necessarily have met previously.
The quality of our children's lives is directly affected by the standard of the schools that they attend. Volunteering as a governor means being part of a team that helps both local schools to achieve and maintain high standards in teaching and pupil well-being and ultimately shape the future of the broader community of Milton Keynes. This is really what I enjoy the most.”
