Dear Chris Curtis MP, Emily Darlington MP & Callum Anderson MP,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to you in my capacity as the Group Leader of the Milton Keynes City Council Conservative Group, with an urgent appeal to ensure the Milton Keynes Women and Children’s Hospital remains a priority and receives the vital funding it needs.
The Women and Children’s Hospital, a project championed for tirelessly by the former Conservative MPs Ben Everitt and Iain Stewart, is at risk due to the Labour Government’s review into the New Hospitals Programme. This uncertainty has created significant concern and shock amongst residents, who were promised this hospital would happen by all three new Labour MPs, including yourself, during the election campaign.
The Labour Government has cast a shadow of uncertainty over our hospital's future with its current plans to review this programme. The focus of our new local Labour MPs should be on actively lobbying for the funding for this vital project. Our residents deserve resolute action; they deserve a robust commitment to securing their healthcare future.
Milton Keynes is already facing significant strain on health infrastructure and the pressure on our healthcare system will only escalate as our city prepares to nearly double in population to 410,000 by 2050. This ambitious growth alongside plans for growth on our borders and the Labour Government’s plans for new towns around the M1 truly underpins the demand for this hospital. Without it, we risk falling short of providing the essential healthcare services that our residents, both current and future, will depend on.
The Milton Keynes Women and Children’s Hospital will serve as a cornerstone for the health and well-being of families in our community. This facility will significantly reduce the burden on the existing hospital and ensure that families do not have to travel long distances for critical care. The hospital will introduce cutting-edge technology, streamline healthcare processes, and improve outcomes for women and children in Milton Keynes. The potential for faster, more efficient care should be a unifying cause that we all champion.
As our local MPs, I urge you to champion this project and advocate for the necessary funding. It is vital that you demonstrate your commitment to the people of Milton Keynes and ensure that the promises you made during the election campaign are honoured. The people of Milton Keynes deserve that.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I am counting on you to fight relentlessly for the Milton Keynes Women and Children’s Hospital and make it a reality for our community.
Yours sincerely,
Cllr Shazna Muzammil
Conservative Group Leader, Milton Keynes City Council
